Generally areas with a heritage overlay require planning and construction approval and specify certain criteria for external finishes to meet stringent building conditions imposed by the Council or governing body. The issue of aesthetics is often a factor to ensure that it blends in with the area's natural surroundings.
As a prime example, the expansion of the Rutherglen Telephone Exchange was one such project that required ICS to comply with the heritage overlay of Indigo Shire Council.
The building was constructed with a 30 degree pitched roof and exposed rafters that in turn looked like a natural extension of the building that has been there for a hundred years.
