Overview

Date: July 2010

Client: BeMobile

Industry: Telecommunications

ICS Industries was contracted to facilitate the expansion of the BeMobile Network to the Solomon Islands by designing and manufacturing 37 Base Stations. Central to this was a larger cyclone rated Core Switchroom measuring 20m x 10m to house the Huawei transmission equipment.

ICS also designed a KIT solution for the Core Switch Building, procured the items and prepared them for export to the capital of Solomon Islands – Honiara. Once the materials arrived in Honiara, the Core Switch Room was constructed from the ground up.

Features

The initial step of the on-site project works was to construct the 20m x 10m reinforced concrete slab. We employed the help of locals to assist in the construction process, which was completed two weeks prior to the erection of the building.

Once the concrete slab was dry, another team of four began the construction of the Core Switch Building. The team was on site for approximately two weeks and again called upon the help of six locals.

Outcome

During the construction phase, the shelter build went according to plan despite two days of rain – which didn’t stop the works. The building was constructed five days ahead of schedule. ICS electrical team installed BeMobile Equipment Racks while the build team completed the flashing on the roof.

We also assisted BeMobile staff with the installation and wiring of 24 equipment racks, the connection of the Generator ATS, wiring for the VSAT and DC works to ensure BeMobile adhered to their Government imposed time constraints.
