Overview

Date: 2009

Client: Telstra

Industry: Telecommunications

With the increasing demand for Broadband Services across Australia, Telstra has had to expand a large number of their metro and rural exchanges. ICS Industries played a key role in the expansion of the Rutherglen Telephone Exchange by designing and manufacturing an expansion module.

A major part of the roll out was the requirement of new switching equipment. Like many telephone exchanges, the Rutherglen Telephone Exchange was running short of space. ICS designed and manufactured a solution to relocate the DC equipment and batteries into an expansion module to be attached to the main building.

Features

As per DA requirements, the shelter was required to have a heritage finish in order to blend in with surrounding buildings. ICS ensured the shelter was clad with galvanised corrugated sheeting on the external walls. The shelter also had a 30 degree pitched roof with exposed rafters – aesthetically similar to existing buildings.

Outcome

Telstra accepted the conditions imposed by the Indigo Shire and ICS provided the civil, electrical, building, plumbing and DC Augmentation works.
